Empowerment Projects

The world might be tough upon our shoulders; however, it is a lot heavier for the disabled,
widowed and elderly people in underdeveloped countries and in war zones. In most cases,
they don’t get any social services from the government. They are mostly dependent on their
families. The care shown by benevolent donors to empowerment projects helps people with
cataract and walking disability to hold on to life on their own.
What is the Situation Around the World?
- People who need cataract surgery worldwide have exceeded 70 million.
- In Syria, almost 3 million people are disabled due to a 10 year long civil war, which makes up 28% of the community. It is double the average of the world population.
WHAT DO WE DO?
Zumra reaches the most needy in war zones and in underdeveloped countries such as Syria, Bangladesh, Palestine, Somalia and Yemen. Zumra provides cataract surgeries for the needy who are then gifted with the return of clear eyesight. We also provide wheelchairs as a means of helping the elderly and disabled to become mobile and actively engage in day to day activities.Videos
”Sa’d ibn Ubadah asked Messenger of Allah, Umm Sa’d (mother of Sa’d) has died; what form of sadaqah (charity) is best? He replied: Water (is best). He dug a well and said: It is for Umm Sa’d” [Sunan Abi Dawud].
